City of Darkness
Yesterday some parts of Singapore encountered blackouts. My estate was also affected.
It was around 1020pm when I was in the kitchen when I heard BANG! Then all power supply went off. I thought only my apartment was affected. Until I went to the kitchen and saw darkness. I could hear people shouting at the Old Airport Hawker centre. Imagine those people who had finished their dinner and was about to pay then the power went off. Wonder they might eat for free. Guess the hawkers must be most badly affected.
Could not find candles, so used my handphone and digicam as source of light. As even the lampost had no power, drivers tend to drive very slowly to avoid an accident. While waiting for power to resume, lied on the main door and play games on my handphone.
After around 1h30mins power resumed. End of City of Darkness. We must learn how to appreciate and conserve electrcity. We are very lucky compared to people living is rural villages.

My first self-motivated jog session.
Finally I was able to cast away my laziness and start working out. Like the chinese saying " The road to success is through the first step ".
Today after my lunch was washing the dishes when I saw joggers jogging around my neighbourhood. I do not wish to stare on my computer doing nothing so I decided to put on my gear and go for a jog. Did some slight warm ups and stretching. As I did not had a watch, I set the stopwatch on my handphone.
As usual the first 400m to me is nothing, still not breathless. After the 400m I can feel my knees heavy, breathless and stomach pain. So I set a target which areas to stop jogging and walk, the next area to start jogging again. I am not sure the real distance of my estate. My approximate guess would be around 2km.
Reached home and saw my stopwatch at 18.545mins. So from my calculations I would be jogging for around 8mins only and spent the 10mins walking. This is bad, however I am happy to be determined to lose weight. Maybe would try another round tonight.

Sandi would be leaving for his hometown Batam this Wednesday. A very humourous and friendly guy, which breaks the barrier from strangers to friends easily. Without him there would be fewer soccer sessions. I wish him good luck and hope to see him real soon. Take care Sandi.

This holland kit is damn nice looking. Wanted to buy it before the start of Euros, however was told that this kit is not available in Sg, so sad.
Yesterday my poly yr1 classmates organised a bbq. However they could not book a pit, so decided to have it at our database lecturer, Mr Yeak Shaw Wen's condo. It at Simsville located quite near to my house. They were meeting 3.45 at Tampines Mrt before going to Mr Yeak's house. They said they did not need additional help so I left home late.
I reached the condo at around 6pm. Called Weili and she told me they are at SingPost buying stuffs, i was like " I AM HUNGRY". Waited awhile before they came to fetch me into the pit. Mr Yeak and her two daughters Kimberly and Rachel was there. Those present were Weili, Aishi, Susee, Yi Ming and Nick. Amanda and Jia Jin would be coming down later. Mrs Yeak prepared pasta YUMMY, fruit cocktail, consiting of apples, jackfruits, logans, rambutans and sea coconut. Mr Yeak also provided a bottle of white wine I guess. We bought crab sticks, otaks, hot dogs, potatos, sting rays YUMMY, and Jia Jin later brought chicken wings. One of the best BBQ I ever been to.
The wrapping of sting ray for grilling was damn funny. They bought banana leaves for wrapping, to have the nice aroma. But most of the leaves broke into smaller pieces and had to be wrapped inside aluminium foil. The marination part, sambal chilli yummy , 2 handfuls of onions by Susee and lime. Yi Ming was shouting why are you putting so much onions. His 2 specially made sting rays were without onions. People at the other pit had already started cooking while, we just started fire. Hungry man faster.
Finally its around 8pm where the food is ready to be cooked. We had pasta first while waiting for the food to be ready. To me the pasta was nice, as I don't usually eat Italian style pasta, had 3 to 4 helpings hahaha. Took very few photos as they were camera shy and the photographs looked shaky may post them later after some editing.
Kimberley and Rachel brought down 3 tennis rackets. Yi MIng told me lets play after our meal. We were eating while the rest went to play. Well this is the first time I played tennis. I found the court to be small, as when i served the ball went out, my serve too hard or powerful? Maybe. Played for around 15mins when another group came. After that game, I found my right arms so aching and weak. I guess I might had pulled it OUCH. After all the food, we had a game of UNO with her daughters and Bridge, their favourite pastime. Heard they could stay back school until 7pm to play bridge crazy. Till this day I still don;t know how its being played.
Mingled and chatted. Yi Ming till this day still did not know his enlistment date. Nick would be going in 2 days later than me. Jia Jin, SUsee and Aishi the top students of IT school were in some world competition and projects while waiting for their entry into university. Weili the hopeless vcd fanatic is into her 3rd year, had many sub papers. I think she should be more dilligent and responsible STOP WATCHING VCDS.
Finally would like to thank Mr Yeak Shaw Wen for lending us your pit and the rest for organising such a wonderful bbq. Hope we would meet up soon and take care everyone for those going NS.

Bye bye France
Greece beat France 1 - 0 to qualify to the semi finals. A beautiful header by Angelos Charisteas knocked France out of the tournament. Portugal will face Greece in the next match.
Well today is the first time my friend book out after they were enlisted around mid June. Its been like 2 weeks. Tiong, Meng wei , Marcus and Sean enjoy your first break. I am still left another 1.5 months before going in.

Portugal's in England out
Finally back home after spending a day at my Uncle's house. Tonight would be the first quarter final match. The more interesting Portugal VS England. Many people predicted England would qualify and host nation out.
Chatted with my frens on msn while waiting for 2.45am. Daniel just bought a logitech web camera from a sale at expo. We streamed and the quality was acceptable, would be tempted to get one also. He also got a cheap deal $15 wireless logitech keyboard. However he could not find the product model on logitech's website.
Kai was troubleshooting his cousin's computer. He told me that his computer very problematic, full of spywares after runing Ad ware program. A total of 5000 suspected objects were found.
Anyone can help me? I am using Dreamweaver MX. When I insert a table, i could not select the cells using my mouse. I sent my sample file to qwen, but she said she could edit. I am going crazy over this stupid ,small and simple issue.
Daniel called me to say his CPU is very noisy. I asked him when we switched off his PC he said around 3 days ago. I replied of cos lar ask you 3 days don't sleep can you stand. After switching off his computer, and when the system passed the memory test, a message appeared. "CPU not found or CPU settings mismatched". I encountered this problem once, restarted and it was fine. I told Dan to follow the instructions on his motherboard manual to set the CPU setting, now there is no error messages.
Its 2.45, chatted with Billy who was also watching the match. Pretty exciting match as both sides want to qualify. Just 3 mins into the game, a defensive mistake by the portugese gave Owen a chance to lob the ball over Ricardo. Score at Eng 1- 0 Portugal.
The matche ended a draw 2-2 having to go into extra time and penalties. Beckham was the first to take the kick. TOO BAD he placed the ball over the bar, as if taking a freekick. Darius Vassell who subbed 18 year old english star Rooney also missed the goal. Ricardo which saved a goal then scored a goal to beat England 6-5 in penalties.
Nice performance by both sides, a very entertaining match of top quality.

Computer part 2
Next morning woke up at 1330. As I did not have internet access I could not get creative's telephone number. I called up hardware place asking for Creative's number, he told me to call the Slix distributor C20City. I called C20city told them my problems and they told me to call Creative.
Called Creative and talked to one of the engineer. I told him my problems and he suspected the card might be faulty and needed to be replaced so he told us to go down for a chat. When we were told we have to put our system there for a few days for checking, my uncle was infruiated and started reasoning with the engineer. He told him that he had to took a day off to buy the system and the card is not working after being bought not even 24 hours and had to leave the system there for a few days.
Took a cab down to Creative. Told the technical support our problems. The tech support called the engineer we spoke to on the phone to meet us. They tested our system with their speakers 2.1, 4.1,6.1 all was working fine. Then I told them to hook up RCA cables. This time no sound came out. Creative guys were surprised. Their solutions is ask my Uncle to get computer speakers, as home theatre speakers might not be compatible.
Took a cab down to Plaza Singapura to sign up Maxonline. He chose the Wireless 1500 Maxonline plan. They would be coming down this wednesday to setup the network.
Had to pay:
1) $99 for the cable modem
2) $52.50 for setup costs
3) $58.80 for the first month subscription
Then we headed down to "Hardware Place" again to get our speakers. My Uncle chose the Harman Kardon Sound sticks. The design is damn CHIO, so differnet from traditional cubic sound systems. The subwoofer is transparent shaped like a hemisphere. The price was $270, but paid $250.
Went home setup the speakers, finally the basic setup is done , we just had to wait the network setup this Wednesday

My uncle arranged me to meet him at Sim Lim Square at 6pm as he wanted to get a pc and needed my recommendations. We looked around some of the shops, then i brought him to 6th floor "Hardware Place". Outside the shop many SFF(small form factor) cases are displayed. They listed two price packages for an aopen shuttle and the MSI Mega PC. The MSI mega package costs $1255 and aopen package around $800++. I saw creative slix. My uncle being an audiophile, I recommended getting the Creative Slix as it includes a audigy 2 sound card. So he agreed and chose the creative slix.
We got
1) Creative Slix + audigy 2 sound card
2) Intel Pentium P4 2.4B
3) SMART 256 PC 333 Rams
4) Western Digital 40GB Harddisk
5) Aopen cdrw and DVD combo
6) Logitech MX Duo
As he wanted to use wireless networking on Maxonline wireless plans, we also got a DLink usb wireless card.
Total $1035
Then we took a cab back, setup the systems. I discovered that I forgotten to bring my XP Pro cd. So he told me to go back home, bring the necessary stuffs and stay overnight at his house. I went back showered, brought some clothings and the software. Reached his house at around 2330.
Started to install XP Pro for him, however the cdrom did not detect the cdrom. I tried a few times before calling Kai. Lukily, I also brought along my Windows 2000 cd. After formatting installing windows, I found out that my XP Pro cd is spoilt. Loaded all his drivers.
The main problem we had was went we hooked up his amplifier to the audigy sound card, sound came out from the left speakers but not the right speakers. Troubleshooted this problem for around 3 hours, then went to sleep at around 5am.

Italy's Shocker
Well this would be the first time I would be moving my blog to a blog hosting site. This would be my first blog entry.
Yesterday TV3 broadcasted the match between Denmark VS Sweden. It was a fierce match, with both teams fighting strong. The match ended at 2 - 2, which destroyed the Italians dream of qualifying. Yesterday the news quoted with the Denmark's match ended a draw of 2-2 or higher, even if Italy scores 10 goals, they would not qualify haha. Kai told me the Italy's match, the stadium is nearly half-filled and the Italians were playing very badly, with Materrazzi giving a penalty to the Bulgarians. Though the Italians manged to beat Bulgaria 2 - 1, they were out. A sad exit for the Italians and its fans. I guess the mafias would be gunning them down LOL.
Added Deyang to my msn. Deyang was my secondary school friend, though same class we were not very close. After graduation he studied at NYP with tiong, meng wei, teck ww ... Saw his nick on hardwarezone forums, so I looked up his profile and added him to my contacts. Had a long chat with him and invited me over his house one to day to play xbox, all originals rich guy LOL.
